Delores A. Auzenne Fellowship

The Delores A. Auzenne Fellowship Program encourages minority students to pursue graduate degrees in areas where they are historically underrepresented at Florida Atlantic University. These areas include, but are not limited to: engineering, mathematics, computer science, economics, and psychology. The program provides support in the amount of $5,000 to each awardee for one academic year of full-time study in selected disciplines. The grant will be available pending Legislative approval.

Dissertation Year Awards

This award is given by the Division of Research & Graduate Studies, Sponsored Research. The objective of the grant is to help students in their dissertation year meet unusual expenses related to completion of their dissertations. Graduate Fellowship for Academic Excellence
2007 - 2008

The Division of Research and Graduate Studies is pleased to announce that nominations are now being accepted for the FAU Graduate Fellowship for Academic Excellence. The program is designed to provide financial assistance in the form of a fellowship to outstanding graduate students. The fellowship provides $5,000.00 for an academic year and is non-renewable.

In order to be considered for this fellowship, the nominees must meet the following minimum requirements:

  1. be enrolled full-time (nine credits) as a degree-seeking student during term of award (if term of graduation, at committee's discretion);
  2. have completed a minimum of one semester in a FAU graduate program; and,
  3. have a minimum FAU graduate grade point average of 3.50.

Nominations should include:

  1. two letters of recommendation from FAU faculty;
  2. an unofficial transcript of all graduate work attempted by the nominee; and,
  3. an FAU Graduate Fellowship for Academic Excellence application form available in the Office of Graduate Admissions and Graduate Studies and all graduate program offices.

McKnight Doctoral Fellowship

The McKnight Program is funded and administered through the Florida Endowment Fund for Higher Education. The program provides full-time African-American doctoral students with a stipend of $11,000.00 a year in addition to providing funds for the payment of tuition, fees, books, health insurance, and an allocation that can be used toward the purchase or lease of a personal computer. Application deadline is January 15 of each year. Announcements and applications are available from the Office of Graduate Studies and Admissions.


Minority Graduate Fellowship*

Florida Atlantic University provides a limited number of state-funded graduate fellowships for promising American Indian/Alaskan Native, Asian/Pacific Islander, Black and Hispanic graduate students. This fellowship is for students who are U.S. citizens or resident-aliens entering the first-term of their graduate study program. This one-time fellowship of up to $2,100.00 will be awarded to degree-seeking students enrolled on a full-time basis; students enrolled on a part-time basis may be considered for an adjusted stipend amount. Selection criteria are based on upper-division GPA, graduate GPA, professional work experience and a letter of recommendation from a faculty advisor.

The Dr. Daniel B. Newell and Aurel B. Newell
Doctoral Fellowship 2007 - 2008

The Florida Atlantic University Foundation and the Division of Research and Graduate Studies are pleased to announce that nominations are now being accepted for the Dr. Daniel B. Newell and Aurel B. Newell Doctoral Fellowship. The program is designed to provide financial assistance in the form of a fellowship to outstanding doctoral graduate students. Funding for the program is provided by the generous contribution of the late Mrs. Aurel B. Newell. The fellowship provides $5,000.00 for an academic year. Recipients may reapply and be considered for second-year funding.

In order to be eligible for this program, the nominees must meet the following minimum requirements:

Nominees must be full-time (9 credits), degree-seeking students and must have completed a minimum of nine credits in a doctoral program at Florida Atlantic University. Students entering a doctoral program prior to completing a master's degree must have earned a minimum of 30 hrs. of graduate course work before being nominated. Nominees must have a minimum grade point average of 3.70.

An FAU Scholarship Application form indicating other sources of financial assistance and need must be completed. This form is available in the Office of Graduate Studies or on-line http://graduate.fau.edu/Awards/NEWELL.pdf.

Nominations are to include:

  • a letter of recommendation from the person nominating the candidate.
  • a letter of recommendation from the candidate's advisor.
  • an unofficial transcript of all graduate work attempted by the nominee.
  • a brief statement from the student summarizing his/her career goals and objectives.

Provides academically-based out-of-state tuition exemption scholarships to qualified graduate students who are Israeli citizens.

Hughes Postdoctoral Fellowes
Provides recent or soon to be Ph.D. recipients who are members of groups underrepresented in STEM fields and psychology with research and teaching experience at a liberal arts college. The Hughes Postdoctoral Fellows will receive two years of support including a stipend at the NIH recommended level and supply and travel fund.Visit www.hope.edu. Applications are being accepted and should be submitted by mid January 2007.

Paul & Daisy Soros New Americans Scholarship
Awards annual graduate student fellowships ($20,000 plus 1/2 tuition for up to 2 years) to qualified individuals with green cards, those who are naturalized US citizens, and children of two naturalized US parents. For more information or the application click here.

Phi Kappa Phi
Honor Society awards 60 Phi Kappa Phi Fellowships of $5,000 each and 40 Awards of Excellence of $2,000 each to its members entering their first year of graduate or professional study.  Recipients also receive a one-year membership into the Society.  Each Phi Kappa Phi chapter (FAU is Chapter 128) may select one candidate from among its local applicants to compete for the Society-wide awards.  Application deadline for 2007-08 recipients is February 1, 2007.  For additional details, including eligibility, selection criteria, chapter information and application material, visit:  www.PhiKappaPhi.org

The Washington Center/BB&T Hispanic Workforce Development & Training Initiative
Provides Hispanic undergraduates, graduate students, or recent graduates the opportunity to establish their career training in banking and finance through a structured 15-week internship in Washington, D.C. administered by the Washington Center.   For more information click here.

The Intercollegiate Studies Institute, Inc. is offering the following fellowships. Please visit www.isi.org for more information on the Weaver Fellowship, Western Civilization Fellowship and Salvatori Fellowship. The deadline for the fellowships is February 15, 2007.

Salvatori Fellowship

Provides each recipient $10,000 for graduate work related to the American Founding.

Weaver Fellowship

This fellowship pays tuition and a stipend of $5,000 and awards $1,000 in Intercollegiate Studies Institute books to assists future professor who are dedicated to the idea of liberal education.  

Western Civilization Fellowship

Awards each recipient $20,000 for dissertation work related to the intellectual, economic, political, social or religious heritage of Western Civilization. 

Other sources of financial aid or scholarships may be available through the individual colleges, academic departments, and/or the Office of Student Financial Aid.
